STARLEAP / SPIKE PRIME PYTHON / 2026–27

Self-Paced Project Path
You need: a LEGO SPIKE Prime set and the SPIKE App Python editor.
Each pair works through projects in order. Pick up where you left off every time.
Do not rush to a finished program. Build a small working piece, run it, change one thing, run again, then show the teacher what changed.
Most Pairs Start Here
Most pairs already finished early hub work, so start at Project 01 Part 3 unless they need the full ramp.
- Project 01: Hub Signal Board
- Project 02: One Motor Mini Machine
- Project 03: Hopper Driver
- Project 04: LEGO Bin Rectangle
Returning Pair Starts Here
The returning pair can start at:
- Project 06: Bouncing Rhino Arena
- Project 07: Parking Beeper
- Project 08: Driving Base 2 Parking Zone
- Project 09: Parking Approach Alarm
- Project 16: Driving Base Mission Lab
Use the Debugging Field Guide whenever something breaks. Use the Challenge Setups sheet when you need a course, wall, target, or prop.
Teacher Check For Every Project
Before getting the next project, show:
- the robot or hub working
- one line you changed
- what that line controls
- one problem you fixed or one number you tuned
Project Ladder
| Project | Build | New Coding Skill | Physical Payoff |

| 03 Hopper Driver | Hopper | motor pair, steering, time | drive and steer a physical model |
| 04 LEGO Bin Rectangle | driving base | variables and loops for driving | tune a rectangle around the LEGO bin |
| 05 Force Button Machine | force sensor + motor | wait for press/release | press-to-run machine |
| 06 Bouncing Rhino Arena | Rhino | functions, bumper, forever loop | multiple Rhinos bouncing around safely |
| 07 Parking Beeper | distance sensor | sensor numbers, if/elif/else | parking warning beeps |
| 08 Driving Base 2 Parking Zone | Driving Base 2 | thresholds and motor decisions | stop inside a target zone |
| 09 Parking Approach Alarm | Driving Base 2 | beep timing and a helper parameter | approach with faster warning beeps, then stop |
| 10 Claw Relay | Robot Hand or Grabber | hub button control | grab and move bricks |
| 11 Kiki Color Station | Kiki, the Dog | color conditions | color reaction game |

Smart Bike Additions
| Project | Build | New Coding Skill | Physical Payoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| 19 Smart Bike Speed Modes | Smart Bike | button selection, arithmetic, parameters | three speed settings for a short ride |
| 20 Smart Bike Trip Computer | Smart Bike | calibration, units, return values | calculate and total estimated travel |
| 21 Smart Bike Security Alarm | parked Smart Bike | Boolean state, baseline, button release | arm, detect a tilt, beep once, disarm |
| 22 Smart Bike Route Data Recorder | Smart Bike | lists, sampling, min/max, graph rows | compare tilt readings along two routes |
Smart Bike Project Route
Keep the same Bike and Biker build for this route. Earlier project numbers have stayed the same so saved programs and printed packets still match.
- Project 19: Speed Modes - select a setting and make one short ride.
- Project 20: Trip Computer - measure your bike and calculate rides in centimetres.
- Project 17: Slope Lab - calibrate tilt, then let a gentle slope choose movement.
- Project 21: Security Alarm - use the parked bike's tilt and an armed state.
- Project 22: Route Data Recorder - save a list of readings and compare routes.
Projects 21 and 22 are independent choices after Project 17. Finish Project 03 and Project 09 before starting Speed Modes. Building, stationary tests and riding may take separate sessions.
